How Zinc Helps with Hair Growth
Zinc plays a critical role in hair follicle function and the hair growth cycle. Zinc deficiency is common and strongly associated with hair loss (telogen effluvium and alopecia areata). Supplementation can restore hair growth in deficient individuals.
๐ฌ What the Research Says
A 2013 study in Annals of Dermatology found that serum zinc levels were significantly lower in patients with hair loss compared to controls. Supplementation with 50mg of zinc gluconate daily for 12 weeks led to significant improvement in alopecia areata patients.

๐ How to Use
Take zinc supplements with food to reduce nausea. Zinc picolinate or gluconate are best-absorbed forms. Pair with copper (2mg) if supplementing long-term, as zinc can deplete copper stores.
๐ Recommended Dosage
15-30mg elemental zinc daily. Do not exceed 40mg/day long-term without medical supervision. Get tested for zinc levels first if possible.
โ ๏ธ Side Effects & Cautions
Nausea if taken on empty stomach. Long-term high doses can cause copper deficiency. May interact with antibiotics and diuretics.
